What you need to know when moving to Turkey with children?

Parents always strive to give their children only the best - quality education, interesting and educational leisure, healthy food, good ecology, boundless love and joy. Undoubtedly, all these factors are the key to prosperity and a beautiful future.

One of the ways to provide your kids with a better life is to move the whole family abroad, for example, to the Republic of Turkey. This country is able to provide the most favorable conditions for living under the bright sun by the warm clear sea.

Nevertheless, before you leave for Turkey with your family for permanent residence, we recommend that you figure out in advance what is necessary for a comfortable change of country without stress and lengthy adaptations.

What you need to know about Turkey when moving with children, about choosing a region, real estate, school, kindergarten, obtaining a residence permit - read our article.

Choosing a region

“Which region of Turkey to choose for living with children?” is one of the first and most important questions asked by foreign buyers. The Republic of Turkey welcomes citizens from abroad who have decided to settle on its territory. Therefore, the geography of residence of foreigners in Turkey is quite wide.

Most Russian-speaking citizens choose Istanbul, Antalya, as well as Alanya and its regions - Mahmutlar, Konakli, Avsallar, Oba, Kargicak and others. Alanya in recent years has become one of the most popular resorts for Ukrainians, Russians, Belarusians, Kazakhstanis, as well as Europeans. Many of them are planning to move to a permanent place of residence with their children, objectively assessing all the benefits that the resort power provides to its residents.

It is important for parents to understand that with the right approach to moving, the adaptation of children in a new country will not bring any problems and will be much faster and easier than for adults. Children learn the language faster, accept living conditions and climate, actively make friends, including among local residents. Even if most of your neighbors are Turks, kids will easily make friends with them. In addition, local residents are guided by the rule “There are no other people's children”, which means they show love, care, help all children without exception, and it doesn’t matter what language they speak.

When choosing a district, we recommend paying attention to several main factors:

  • The level of development of urban infrastructure. It is important that there are public transport stops, convenient routes and transport interchanges near the house.
  • Kindergartens, schools, a clinic and a hospital - the proximity of these facilities to your place of residence is of paramount importance.
  • It's good if the road from home to the airport and train station will not take you much time. Especially if you are planning frequent visits to your home country.
  • An interesting and varied leisure time for a child is a guarantee of active development and good mood. Therefore, choose accommodation within walking distance of which or not far from entertainment and sports centers, clubs, playgrounds, squares and parks.

What type of property is suitable

Perhaps the most important task after you have decided on a place to live is the choice of property. Many investors from abroad, when planning to move to Turkey for permanent residence with a child, dream of a cozy villa by the sea. However, buying a house, firstly, is far from affordable for everyone, and, secondly, in practice everything is not always as romantic as it seems. In some cases, it is much easier and more comfortable to live in a spacious apartment located in a modern residential complex from leading developers in Alanya, such as Nordic Property.

Apartments in new residential complexes are:

  • relatively low cost per square meter;
  • closed area intended only for residents of the complex;
  • complete security of residence;
  • The necessary infrastructure is provided for children - swimming pools, playgrounds, green spaces and much more.

Also, before buying a property for family living, in addition to prices, pay attention to the quality of construction and the finishing materials used. Of particular importance is the compliance of the quality of construction with all international building codes and regulations. Check heat, hydro and sound insulation, environmental friendliness of materials used in interior decoration.

If you want to buy an apartment in a multistory building, check the availability of a freight and passenger elevator. But a balcony for families with small children is a serious issue and needs to be addressed at the initial stage. Since literally all apartments in the resort region of Turkey have a large terrace, it is important to think over and ensure children's safety in advance. The same goes for stairs in duplex housing.

A huge plus of Turkish real estate is the maximum stage of readiness of objects for sale. Most of the apartments have been renovated, bathrooms are ready, there is a kitchen set. Buying a turnkey property, you are guaranteed to get renovated apartments, furniture, household appliances and all other interior items necessary for life.

If you decide to move with your children for permanent residence in Alanya, choose a property based on comfort and safety.

What you need to consider for quick adaptation

First of all, we propose to dispel all the fears of parents associated with moving to Turkey for permanent residence together with kids. Most of them are unfounded, since Turkey for children is one of the most comfortable and favorable countries for life.

As we have already found out, on the resort coast of the state and, in particular, in Alanya, there is an excellent ecological situation, a favorable climate, and a clean sea. The Turkish government cares about maintaining good ecology and comprehensively controls this issue. For example, in Alanya there is not a single large and harmful production both on the territory of the city and in its environs.

Do not be afraid of the difference in mentality, traditions, culture. Goodwill and loyalty to foreigners are visible even at the first meeting with the locals. Older children should be warned about some differences in traditions, behavior, religion, so that they do not inadvertently offend someone from the indigenous population.

Alania and its regions are one of the most comfortable places to live with children, where an extensive unofficial Russian diaspora has already formed in Turkey. It is really very difficult to feel completely cut off from your historical homeland here.

If you want to be in a Russian-speaking environment most of the time, many families with children from the CIS countries live in residential complexes from the construction company Nordic Property. In this case, your kids will immediately be able to find a company for games and friendship, which means it is much easier to adapt to a new country.

If children get used to society very quickly, then the influence of a different climate on a growing organism often requires increased attention from parents. The change of cooler and drier climatic conditions to a higher temperature and increased humidity of the resort region of Turkey at first in babies can cause colds and mild ailments. However, this soon passes and, as experience shows, immunity in children becomes much better than before.

In most settlements of the Republic of Turkey there is everything necessary for the comprehensive development of children - schools, kindergartens, cultural, educational, developmental circles. Moreover, in such popular cities among Russian-speaking foreigners as Antalya and Alanya, Russian schools and kindergartens have been successfully operating for several years.

If your children already show talent for some creative, educational direction, then when moving to Turkey for permanent residence, be sure to take this into account and choose a place of residence with the prospect of developing children.

Issuing a residence permit and documents for entering the country

Purchasing a property in Turkey guarantees you and your family a residence permit. A residence permit does not oblige you to permanently reside in the territory of the state or fulfill any other conditions. If the assessed value of the property exceeds USD 250,000, the foreign investor and minor members of his family can apply for Turkish citizenship under the accelerated scheme.

It is important to foresee what documents are needed to move to Turkey with children on a residence permit. The standard list consists of:

  • A valid international passport and its translation into Turkish, certified by a notary.
  • Birth certificate of children with Turkish translation.
  • TAPU is a certificate of ownership of real estate or an apartment rental agreement drawn up with a Turkish citizen.
  • Health insurance policy.
  • Certificate of income sufficient to support family members and its translation into Turkish.

The list of documents may be supplemented / changed, depending on the reason for obtaining a residence permit in Turkey. An application for a residence permit is submitted electronically on the website of the Migration Service.

Advice

If you dream of living in Turkey by the sea with your whole family, the first thing to do is to stop doubting and take the first step. A well-thought-out move without unnecessary haste will go smoothly and without problems.

If you and your family members have the opportunity, we recommend that you get at least a basic knowledge of the Turkish language before moving in order to immediately feel confident in the new state.

When choosing a Turkish school or other educational institution, prepare for the fact that the learning process will be somewhat different from what you are used to in your homeland. When moving, children always mean expenses in Turkey for their maintenance and education. It is worthwhile to clarify in advance the amount of expenses for a kindergarten or school. There are free public schools in the country, but getting into them is more difficult than paying ones.

The range of ready-made baby food in Turkish stores is relatively small - keep this in mind when planning a move with newborn babies. If the food presented in pharmacies and shopping centers is not suitable, local mothers cook their own food.

Medicine in Turkey is at the highest level. Service fees are much lower than in European countries and part of the costs is covered by health insurance. In the Republic of Turkey, a doctor's house call is not provided. If a child falls ill, parents need to contact the ambulance themselves.
